South Africa’s 270,0000-member National Union of Mineworkers calls for a one-day strike action to protest unsafe working conditions in the country’s mines. In 2007, over 200 miners died on the job in South Africa. “We are losing mine workers on an almost daily basis,” said a union spokesperson. “This is because of pure negligence.”
